35th Annual Horse Show (2005)

English and Western Riding Classes Highlight Peekskill Rotary’s 35 th Annual Horse Show & Country Fair

--Rotary Fundraiser to Benefit Peekskill & Cortlandt Communities --

Peekskill Rotary will host its 35th Annual Horse Show and Country Fair Sept. 24 and 25 at Blue Mt. Reservation in Peekskill. This is the only show in Westchester County with both English and Western classes. There are 23 Western classes with six championships and 28 English classes with eight championships.

Bernard Parker will judge the Western and Therapeutic Classes, and J.B. Passler will judge the English Classes. Both bring exceptional talent and experience to the show’s competition.

Stables from throughout the tri-state area participate in this highly-regarded show which has a reputation for quality. Since the show is non-rated, the entry fees are lower than many other competitive events. This allows beginners to gain competitive experience and, for more seasoned riders, to compete in more classes. And it is one of the few horse shows that still awards silver trophies.

Over the years, club members have expanded the basic horse show to include an old-fashioned country fair with home craft vendors, a flea market, hayrides, pony rides, exhibitions and entertainment.

The “Kountry Kitchen” sells home-baked cakes, cookies, brownies, pies, breads, jams, hot pretzels, pumpkins, apples, cider and mums. In the food tent, Rotarians serve up hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken, their famous sausage & peppers, fries, cider and other beverages. They also sell ice cream and popcorn.

In addition to the traditional pony and hay rides, there will be many other activities for children such as air rides and games of skill. Children from local dance, martial arts and gymnastic schools will entertain fair goers.

The Peekskill Rotary was chartered 86 years ago. The club now has about 75 members representing a cross-section of the Peekskill and Cortlandt communities. The Horse Show is the club’s primary fundraiser, with all money raised donated to community groups and to international relief efforts.
