Allison Risoli Receives Peekskill Rotary’s Prestigious Paul Harris Fellowship

Allison Risoli (center) received Rotary’s highest honor from the Peekskill Rotary Club on Nov. 18.  Presenting the fellowship to her were, from left, former Rotarian Presidents Debbie Milone, Howard Copeland and Roger Prahl, and current President Keith Bobolia.

Peekskill High School teacher Allison Risoli was made a Paul Harris Fellow Nov. 11, 2004 during a ceremony that recognized her outstanding contributions to the Peekskill commun.

A Paul Harris Fellowship is the highest honor given by a Rotary Club and the Rotary International Foundation. To be recognized, an honoree must consistently demonstrate the Rotary motto — Service Above Self — and make significant contributions to the club’s involvement in service to local schools, the community and/or international projects.

A native and resident of Peekskill, Ms. Risoli has taught at Peekskill High School for 14 years and is faculty advisor to the school’s Rotary Interact Club, a social and service club open to all students in grades 9–12. The program encourages high school students to participate in projects that serve local and international communities.

Members of the Peekskill High School Interact Club showed up in force at the Cortlandt Colonial Restaurant for the noontime ceremony honoring Ms. Risoli.  With her guidance, these students are contributing significantly to the quality of life in Peekskill.

Under her guidance, Peekskill High School students have lent a helping hand in recent years to those in need in a variety of ways: by manning the Salvation Army soup kitchen, by making nursing home visits, by organizing clothing and food drives, by countering and raising awareness of domestic violence, reading to children, participating in AIDS WALK NY and many other activities.

Ms. Risoli has demonstrated her commitment to our community in many other ways, among them as a member of the board of Habitat for Humanity, a member of the Human Relations Board of the City of Peekskill, and a Rockefeller Foundation member. In 1997 Ms. Risoli received the Spirit of Hope Award from St. Peter’s Church in Peekskill.

A graduate of Peekskill High School, Ms. Risoli received her undergraduate degree from Manhattanville College and a Masters Degree from Fordham University.
