welcomes French exchange student Francois Maillard to Peekskill. Maillard is living with local
families and attending Peekskill High School during
his year in this country. |
Emilio Bolanos Fernadez of Costa Rica, Peekskill Rotary Club’s Youth Exchange Student for 2005-2006, joins a roster of more than 30 Youth Exchange Students hosted by the Peekskill Rotary Club since 1972. They came from all corners of the globe and enjoyed a year here in our schools and community. They usually arrive in August and stay until the following July. During that time they typically live with three families within the school district they attend. Exchange students hosted by the Peekskill Rotary Club attend Peekskill High, Walter Panas High or Hendrick Hudson High during their stays. Others from the Peekskill area have gone abroad to be hosted by Rotary clubs in other countries.
Francois Maillard of Aze, France celebrated his 18th birthday in October, 2004 not with his family but with members of the Peekskill Rotary Club as he joined them in setting up facilities for the club’s 34th Annual Horse Show. Francois attended Peekskill High School and played on the school’s football, swimming and lacrosse teams.
Cristopher Hamann was 17 when he came to Cortlandt from Hohenau, Paraguay to be Peekskill Rotary Club’s Youth Exchange Student for 2003-2004. Cris attended Hendrick Hudson High School, lived with three families and participated in graduation ceremonies in June.
Milou Dasselaar was a 17-year-old from Heiloo, the Netherlands and was the Peekskill Rotary Club’s Youth Exchange Student for 2002-2003. She attended Peekskill High School and lived with local families during the year.
These young people make lasting bonds with their host families and with Rotary club members. Many return to visit and some have come back to live in the United States. Others attend weddings and family events with their former host families as a result of the ties formed.
