Fontana Music Scholarship Awarded to Hendrick Hudson Senior

Daniel J. Padmos of Hendrick Hudson High School

The Peekskill Rotary Club’s Joseph B. Fontana Award for Music was presented this year to Daniel J. Padmos of Hendrick Hudson High School.  Dan plays the clarinet.

The $1,000 scholarship is open to graduating seniors from Peekskill, Walter Panas and Hendrick Hudson high schools. The award is given based on academics and musical talent, and requires the student to either major or minor in music while in college.

Dr. Joseph B. Fontana, a dentist and violist, was a member of the Rotary Club of Peekskill and a Rotary District Governor.

In applying for the scholarship, Dan played the Weber Clarinet Concerto in Eb major, op 74 No. 2.  He will attend New York University.  Dan said, ”by studying at NYU, which approaches music both as an art and as a business, I hope to become not only a more accomplished performer, but also an inspiration to aspiring musicians.”

Peekskill Rotarian Dr. Donald Feldman, chairman of the club’s Fontana Memorial Scholarship Committee, introduced Dan and presented him with the award during the club’s meeting June 15.
