Peekskill Rotary Awards New Sampson Scholarships

Peekskill High School Seniors Jeremy Lambert and Adam Moses

Peekskill High School Seniors Jeremy Lambert and Adam Moses

Peekskill High School Seniors Jeremy Lambert and Adam Moses received the first ever George Sampson Scholarships awarded in June by the Peekskill Rotary Club.

The scholarship, funded by the estate of former Peekskill Rotary Club President and Paul Harris Fellow George Sampson, will be awarded each year to two graduating seniors from Hendrick Hudson, Peekskill or Walter Panas High Schools.

The award must be used to assist graduating students in purchasing tools for a craft, or furthering their specialized schooling or apprenticeship.  Selection by a committee of Rotarians is based on focus and need.

Each of the two recipients will receive $500.

Jeremy Lambert will study Automotive Technology at Hudson Valley Community College and plans to open an auto shop when he graduates from college.  Jeremy was a member of the Peekskill High School basketball state championship team and expects to continue playing at Hudson Valley.  He was also a member of the lacrosse team, worked at several jobs and served less fortunate community residents at St. John’s food pantry.

Adam Moses has been accepted as an honor student at Johnson and Wales University where he will study to become a chef.  His ambition is to be the head chef in a prestigious restaurant.  In pursuit of that dream, he was a student in the culinary program at the Tech Center in Yorktown for two years where he earned high praise from his instructors.  Adam also worked as an assistant chef at the Division Street Grill in Peekskill.  His other activities included playing in the PHS bands and on the varsity bowling team.
